The electric semis will be responsible for picking up parts from suppliers in the Pacific Northwest and transporting them to Daimler’s consolidation center in Portland. From the consolidation center, the parts will be distributed to North American factories and aftermarket parts distribution centers, serving customers in the U.S. and Canada.
The eCascadias will utilize Daimler’s “Electric Island,” a dedicated heavy-duty electric truck charging, development, and testing site established in 2021 at the company’s headquarters. Charging at this facility ensures that the electric semis are ready for operations, emphasizing the importance of an established charging infrastructure.
The eCascadia is available in two configurations: 315 kWh and 475 kWh. With a range of up to 250 miles, the electric semi-truck caters to the needs of regional transportation while carrying a substantial gross vehicle weight of approximately 65,000 pounds.
Daimler achieved carbon-neutral production at its Portland truck factory, where the eCascadia is manufactured, in 2020. The company’s commitment extends to incorporating carbon-neutral production across its remaining truck factories by 2025, aligning with sustainability goals.
