ARKANSAS, Nov 18 (Future Headlines)- New York Governor Kathy Hochul has unveiled plans for expedited offshore wind solicitations in early 2024, supporting the state’s ambitious renewable energy targets. The Requests for Proposals are set to be released on November 30, 2023, with final proposals due on January 25, 2024, and award announcements expected by the end of February 2024.

These solicitations align with New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act goals, aiming to derive 70% of the state’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and develop 9,000 MW of offshore wind by 2035.

Governor Hochul emphasized the commitment to affordable, zero-emission, and reliable electricity, stating, “The release of this expedited and competitive solicitation process demonstrates our commitment to ensuring New York remains the place for the renewable energy industry to do business.”

Projects that have previously sought financial relief from the New York State Public Service Commission can participate in the solicitation, with a focus on fostering competition among these projects and others. This approach aims to ensure the transparency of the process and deliver the best value for New York electricity consumers.

The expedited offshore wind and land-based renewable energy solicitations are integral to New York’s 10-Point Action Plan, a comprehensive strategy announced by Governor Hochul last month. This plan outlines specific benchmarks and activities to address recent macroeconomic and inflationary challenges affecting the renewable energy sector.

As New York advances its renewable energy agenda, these expedited solicitations underscore the state’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for the renewable energy industry and achieving its clean energy objectives.
